Kipfler potatoes have a really lovely taste and extremely creamy texture that taste especially good in rich stews. I decided to try using them for the famous Malayalee Ishtu and the result was incredible! I won’t be going back to regular potatoes now. Continue reading Kipfler Potato Ishtu
Milagai Podi
I love podi. I could happily live on podi if my family would just let me be.
Arborio Mung Dal Khara Pongal
Ok, I know this sounds soooo wrong, but stick with me on this. Continue reading Arborio Mung Dal Khara Pongal
Masala Pav
Since my last Pav Bhaji post, I must confess to having pigged out on ‘real’ Pav Bhaji many times in India now. I am officially an addict and can’t get enough of this spicy potato mash-up. Continue reading Masala Pav
Idli
I’ve never had much luck in getting idli batter to ferment, but last night I gave it another shot! I think I know why I got it wrong all these years, I simply didn’t add enough water (silly me!). I did a little research yesterday and came across a blog on idli making and troubles that particular blogger had. She said adding more water to the batter worked for her, so I thought I didn’t have much to lose, and it worked! Continue reading Idli
Scallop Sandwich & Chilli Mayo
I haven’t been posting much as we’ve been pretty busy with work, visitors, travelling etc. We have also been eating out far too much and last night I decided we really need to cut down on the gluttony. This recipe was really quick to throw together (we always have frozen scallops in our freezer) and the result was better than any gourmet meal. Simple and light, but still very interesting and tasty. Continue reading Scallop Sandwich & Chilli Mayo
Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
I started making this hot chocolate as a way to use up a huge block of couverture premium dark chocolate that I had lying around in the back of my fridge (don’t ask me why I had it in the first place, that’s a very long story). Continue reading Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
Chicken Banh Mi
One of my favourite things when eating out is the Vietnamese Chicken Bahn Mi. It’s a light, crunchy baguette style loaf filled with lots of pickled vegetables, grilled chicken and fresh herbs. The Bahn Mi is incredibly tasty and explodes with flavours, unfortunately it also hits the wallet pretty hard. If we have this a couple of times a week, we’re paying close to $100 per week just for sandwiches. Continue reading Chicken Banh Mi
Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies are THE ULTIMATE cookies. They are my absolute favourite and never fail to impress a crowd. Scoop them out onto a baking tray and freeze. They store well in the freezer for weeks in a zip lock bag. When you have guests, just pop them in the oven (no need to thaw) and about 20 minutes later, you would have turned your guests into devotees. Continue reading Chocolate Chip Cookies
Grilled Chilli Cheese Sandwich
We’ve been away on holidays and it has been so difficult getting back into a routine of cooking and housework. All I want to do is laze around in post-holiday bliss. Not having the motivation to cook doesn’t mean we don’t have the motivation to eat. Unfortunately for us, post-holiday also means it is time to curb the spending, so going out for dinner last night wasn’t an option. I made some grilled cheese sandwiches and they were a hit with very little effort required! Continue reading Grilled Chilli Cheese Sandwich
