Sugar free or not, this is the best chocolate mousse I’ve ever had. Last night I skipped dinner and had a whole bowl of this instead. It was soul-touching. This recipe is definitely a keeper, it’s so quick to prepare and could just as easily feed a crowd. Continue reading Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse
Low Carb Oopsie Roll
This recipe has changed the lives of those who have adopted a low carb lifestyle. I came upon the recipe absolutely by chance, but had to try it straight away! It’s not quite like bread, it reminded me of a very light yorkshire pudding or a cream puff. But it’s still really tasty and I enjoyed it with peanut butter for breakfast. I also used a couple of rolls to mop up my prawn curry last night. The recipe only takes a few ingredients and it’s really quite easy. Continue reading Low Carb Oopsie Roll
Turnip Crisps
I know these crisps look a little burnt (I love the zebra stripes though), but trust me, they were not! They were also super tasty and at 1/4 of the carbs of regular potato crisps, I think they’re a bonus! I did struggle to get them to go golden, they seem to stay white for a long while and then suddenly go dark. But they tasted really good. Continue reading Turnip Crisps
Pineapple Coconut Upside-down Cake
Another cake for the cake monster in my house. This one was less of a fluffy cake and more of a thick dense, syruppy pudding like thing. Still very tasty. I based it loosely on this recipe but with quite a few changes that the end result was quite different. Continue reading Pineapple Coconut Upside-down Cake
Avocado Salad
This recipe is a cross between a salad and a salsa. Whatever you’d like to call it, it’s really tasty and literally takes minutes to put together. It’s also a great recipe to use up bits and pieces of vegetables you have lying in your fridge. You don’t need to follow the exact recipe below, just go with your instinct. Continue reading Avocado Salad
Pan-fried Chicken Satay
My parents often catch up with other Indian Singaporean families who have moved to Melbourne. Being so busy with work and uni, I don’t usually get the chance to attend these gatherings. This is a real pity as the food spread is incredible. Every family will seize the opportunity to show off their culinary specialities at these gatherings and it’s impossible to know when to stop pigging out. Continue reading Pan-fried Chicken Satay
Wombok Crunchy Noodle Salad
The first time mum made this salad, I couldn’t get over her brilliance. I thought my mother was the coolest person in the world for coming up with recipe. When she finally confessed that she got the recipe from her friend, my devotion shifted from mum to her friend. I begged for the recipe for weeks, and finally got it on a tiny piece of torn post it note. Continue reading Wombok Crunchy Noodle Salad
Egg Curry with Coconut Milk
I’ve been unwell for a couple of weeks. It must be exam stress, but last night I finally felt up to eating something more substantial than chocolate Easter eggs (ultimate comfort food). Unfortunately we haven’t been grocery shopping and the only thing we had in stock were eggs. Continue reading Egg Curry with Coconut Milk
Spicy Pongal
I’ve only ever had sweet pongal until I tried Venn Pongal in Chennai. I never liked sweet pongal and would usually refuse at the dinner table. When we were in Chennai, due to some planning issues, we were stuck before our next flight at 5 in the morning and the only thing the hotel had ready for breakfast was pongal. Continue reading Spicy Pongal
Moroccan Beef Pies
Mangy is just as obsessed with pies as he is with cakes. Frankly I was a little tired of the usual pepper steak pie. So I thought I’d give it a little twist. This recipe is loosely based on this one. The idea was so hard to resist, it seemed so exotic and rich. I would happily serve it as a stew with some bread or mash or over some couscous. Continue reading Moroccan Beef Pies
