Beef Cannelloni

As most of you know, I use an iPhone for all my pictures. The pictures aren’t the best, but the iPhone does the job and it usually means I spend less very little time snapping photos and within a minute I can wolf down dinner. The only time I’ve felt the limitations of using an iPhone, was when I tried making this baked cannelloni dish look pretty. Continue reading Beef Cannelloni

Spicy Chicken Wings

There is a little Jamaican restaurant that Mangy and I love. It’s run by 2 men who are uncle and nephew and they’re as Jamaican as you’ll find in Melbourne. My 2 favourite things on their 4-dish menu, are their wings and fried plantain. I’ve been meaning to try cooking the wings at home but have yet to find an exact recipe match. Continue reading Spicy Chicken Wings

Tomato and Basil Salad

I really don’t like hot days, I love my winters. Lots of nice warm thick coats, soups, thick stews and hot rice, that’s my idea of a good life. The weather here has been stinking hot – which has been horrible for me. I don’t even like the beach! The only time I’m at the beach is if it involves food. Otherwise I’m quite happy indoors, thank you! I don’t know how people spend days on the beach with the sun on their bare backs. Continue reading Tomato and Basil Salad

Coffee Choc Chip and Walnut Cake

Oh God, this is the world’s best choc chip cake. Mangy and I have been fighting over it and I’m really surprised it lasted 3 days. I’m guessing the only reason we didn’t finish it sooner was coz we haven’t been home much. Serve the cake piping hot for a pudding-like dessert. It tastes even better when cool, the crust goes crisp, but the inside remains soft, rich and so moist. If I could marry a cake, this is the cake I would marry. Granny’s Rasam

For the longest time, I’d assumed that rasam could be only made in one way. Then I came across a little booklet with all sorts of rasam recipes (including green apple rasam!). There was a valid reason to my assumption. I’d grown up on my granny’s rasam you see, and have never really tasted rasam other than her’s or my mum’s. Continue reading Granny’s Rasam

Spicy Carrot Salad

I’ve been flat out with work and Uni, so Mangy’s been doing most of the cooking 🙂 I can’t say I’m complaining, I feel rather spoilt actually. Hot meals prepared for me, lunches packed, what more can a girl ask for? This carrot salad is one of Mangy’s specialties.
It’s really tasty and so easy to prepare. I usually hate carrots, but will happily eat this. Mangy used a purple carrot too, we couldn’t resist them when we found them at Coles. But feel free to use regular carrots. Enjoy with hot rice. Continue reading Spicy Carrot Salad

Prawn and Chicken Wontons

These wontons are super tasty, a little spicy, but not enough to blow your head off. They go well on their own as finger food with chili sauce on the side or with noodles and soup. I won’t post post the folding technique, just google it or check out youtube. There are numerous sites with good instructions and photos available. Continue reading Prawn and Chicken Wontons
