Quorn Pasta Goreng

Pasta Goreng was on the menu at least once a week when I was in school. I haven’t had it in years, but decided to make it tonight. I need to clear out the pantry before we go on holidays, so be warned. Lots of weird recipes coming up!

Pasta Goreng is basically a spicy noodle dish, but with pasta replacing the traditional noodles. You could use any shape pasta. We just happened to have bow-ties at home.You’ll need:
250g pasta
1 medium red onion (diced)
150g mince (I use Quorn mince)
1/2 cup frozen vegetables
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 heaped teaspoon roasted red chili powder
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1/2 teaspoon chili paste (optional – I use Uncle Charlie’s Extra Hot Chili)
2 tablespoons crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce (if using tomato sauce, skip kecap manis)
1/2 tablespoon kecap manis
Salt to taste
Chopped fresh coriander

Boil water, add plenty of salt. Cook pasta. Once cooked, drain pasta and run under cold water.

Heat oil in a pan, add onions. Cook until soft and translucent. Add mince, frozen vegetables, ginger and garlic paste. Fry well. Add turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala and roasted red chili powder. Fry well. Add crushed tomato, kecap manis and chili paste (if using). Mix well, cook until mince is cooked through and the mixture is fairly dry. Add pasta and stir well. Add more oil if needed. Add salt to taste. Stir in chopped coriander. Enjoy!
